AFECT

 

AFECT's media office supplies educational films in the Akha dialect to promote health, education, community and culture. Our films also warn the dangers of HIV, drugs, prostitution and trafficking.

We also publish and circulate a monthly broadsheet newspaper called FADOI TRIBAL NEWS which brings current cultural comment to the communities. We have also produced several films in Thai language to bridge understanding and reduce conflict between  the Akha and Thai peoples. Thai national television has become increasingly interested in AFECT and broadcast many programme's on our work nationally.

We also use the media in a cultural capacity to build self-esteem within the tribe. Warning the real costs of 'developement' and tourism which undermines local economies and dispelling idealized images of western consumer culture which is so corosive to the tribes traditions and confidence.

The media is an excellent resource to provide correct information quickly, cheaply and dynamically and we are expanding the media project into Laos and Burma.

In association with the Hani Peoples Broadcast station China, we are researching and sharing shamanic knowledge worldwide in an international shamanic network for indigenous tribes. This scheme is built on recognising shamanic cultures sharing the same mythic archetypes and sustainable relationship with their environment. With the severe threat of christian missionary groups who are causing damage to cultural diversity there is significant need to empower tribal communities across the world to build individual and cultural self esteem.

The media program is also training Akha people to create their own films and tell their own stories about what's happening to the tribe. This is based on script writing, camera and editing skills.

 สกว.หน่วยงานสนับสนุนการวิจัยชาวบ้าน....

   “สกว.” หรือชื่อเต็มว่า สำนักงานกองทุนสนับสนุนการวิจัย  ปัจจุบัน มีสำนักงานประสานพื้นที่ภาคเหนือ อยู่ที่คณะเกษตรศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่  เป็นหน่วยงานปฏิบัติเชิงรุกร่วมกับชุมชน พื้นที่ทั่วประเทศไทย ทั้งพื้นราบและพื้นที่สูง โดยเฉพาะงานด้านการท่องเที่ยว ที่ สกว.มีความสนใจเป็นกรณีพิเศษอีกงานหนึ่ง  เนื่องจากประเทศไทยมีรูปแบบ การจัดกิจกรรมท่องเที่ยวหลายรูปแบบ ซึ่งส่งผลทั้งเชิงบวกและลบมามาก   การท่องเที่ยว กำลังเกาะเป็นกระแส ที่เริ่มจากชาวบ้านเรียกว่า
